Fusionworks Dance Company’s
As part of its 30th Anniversary Season, Fusionworks is currently offering Picture This! a gallery performance tour throughout New England.
Picture This! is a unique fusion of visual art and modern dance, making a gallery or museum space come alive with movement. With informal spoken introductions and interactions with patrons, Fusionworks brings an entirely new dimension to the gallery experience by presenting dances that are created specifically for each gallery installation. Prior to a Picture This! performance, the Artistic Director studies the works in each installation and then creates original choreography that is inspired by and responds to the content and subject matter in the galleries. These dances are performed right on the gallery floor, in and among the existing installations, with no need to change where any art items are placed, and no special equipment other than a small sound system. Each dance is tailored to each gallery layout.
Picture This! provides exciting chance encounters between the paintings and dancers, as well as the dancers and museum patrons. We amplify the experience of looking at an art installation by inviting patrons to see the art works through the lens of dance, and to imagine them as living, moving experiences. Dancers jump through the canvas, bringing the inner worlds of paintings to life, and dance with sculptures, inspiring audiences to see the movement within them set free.
Let Fusionworks help to build your gallery patronage with an up close, out-of-the-box experience that weaves together the performing and visual arts, building bridges between two usually separate arts communities, and is appropriate for families and all ages.

"On behalf of the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD Museum), I am honored to provide this endorsement of the professionalism and extraordinary quality demonstrated by Fusionworks Dance Company. Artistic Director, Deb Meunier, worked collaboratively with the Company and Museum staff to develop a ‘Movement Installation” performance set in a gallery of European painting. This vibrant performance, in conversation with the visual art displayed, offered many provocative aspects to consider. The multi-discipline experience invited personal connections to both movement and paintings. It demonstrated surprises around modern dance and expectations of Museum experiences, along with space for reflections on art.
The undertaking by Fusionworks was challenging, given the space and specific Museum guidelines, however the Company’s commitment to offer access to their work in new settings was fully embraced by all. Fusionworks turned limitations into creative enhancements always considering the audience’s experience. They defied expectations and provided beautiful, compelling work at the RISD Museum."

“Inspired by the paintings and sculptures in the gallery, the dancers transform space. We are witness to their direct communication with the art, and marvel at their rhythmic interpretations of the musical score. The gallery is enlivened by the dynamic with the weaving together of these various art forms, where alone they would be greatly appreciated, but together form a spectacular experience.”
